The United Nations Security Council will hold a special meeting today to deal with the crash of a Malaysian airliner over eastern Ukraine, news reports said.

A Malaysian airplane carrying 295 people was shot down yesterday while flying near the Ukraine-Russia border and no survivors were reported.

The U.N. is mulling a draft statement calling for a thorough international investigation into what caused the crash, according to Reuters.

The U.N. Security Council has held a series of meetings on the Ukraine crisis, but it has taken no formal action with disagreements among Russia, Britain, France and the United States, Reuters said.

Meanwhile, it was the second time that a Malaysia Airlines plane was lost in less than six months. Its Flight 370 disappeared in March while heading from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
