Twitter, the popular micro-blogging service credited with changing the way news is distributed, boasts an astounding 974 million users. It turns out, however, that not all of those people take the time to actually use their accounts.
According to Twopcharts, a site that tracks Twitter usage, approximately 44 percent of Twitter accounts have never sent a single tweet. Of those that have, 43 percent are reported to have sent their last tweet more than a year ago. In fact, of the 974 million accounts, only 126 million were found to have tweeted in the last 30 days.
In addition to infrequent use, approximately 391 million Twitter accounts have zero followers.
