The Daegu District Court sentenced a 36-year-old woman to 10 years in prison for beating her 8-year-old stepdaughter to death.

The stepmother, identified by her surname Yim, was found guilty of repeatedly kicking and punching the girl in the stomach at their home in Chilgok, North Gyeongsang Province, in August 2013. The stepdaughter died from peritonitis caused by ruptured organs.

During the trial it was also revealed that the stepmother forced the victim’s 12-year-old sister to falsely testify that she had beaten the younger sister to death.
